Life Sciences Opportunity Zone

Recognizing the incredible potential of this Life Sciences asset located in the heart of the Midlands, Charnwood Campus was proudly announced as the UK’s very first Life Science Opportunity Zone (LSOZ) in 2017.

A powerful partnership was formed between local businesses Almac and 3M, esteemed research and government institutions, and the Office for Life Sciences. Together, a unified vision and strategy to unlock the full potential of Charnwood Campus was developed, ultimately contributing to the growth of the UK’s Life Sciences industry in the Midlands.

This collaboration resulted in an exciting proposal, available below, that seals Charnwood Campus’ role as a crucial component of the UK’s Life Sciences Infrastructure. It serves as an inspiring environment where discovery thrives, collaboration flourishes, and business growth for the Med-Tech and Biopharma community is propelled forward.

Since its designation, these dedicated partners have diligently worked together to bring this vision to life. Significant investments have been made to create exceptional physical spaces that attract companies to establish themselves within this vibrant ecosystem. In addition, innovative cluster support programs have been implemented to foster growth and success in the sector. These programs provide businesses with invaluable opportunities for skills and leadership development, supportive business events and workshops, and access to funding, clinical trials, and academic research through collaborations with the NHS and academia.
